Salt of the earth, be the light

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men." "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden . . . Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:13-16)

In today’s reading Jesus wants us to follow him with totality. He wants through our works to preserve our faith and trust. He wants us to continue his work. The good works that we do is the “flavor” and it will shine like a light. Back in Jesus’ time and until recently salt was used to preserve food. And the gift of light was a feeling of security. To be called Christian is more than words, it is through action that we can call ourselves followers of Christ. He is the way, the truth and the light. When we fully follow Him we become the beacon, the guide, for others to bless the world through him.

Go out and preach the gospel by your lives and use words if necessary!
